When heroic local arts patron Stanley Grinstein died in March, the Los Angeles art world mourned his passing and celebrated his life. Together with wife Elyse, Grinstein had been one of the city's most generous supporters of the visual arts since the 1960s, when, among other accomplishments, the couple (along with Rosamund and Sidney Felsen) founded powerhouse printmaking shop Gemini G.E.L. For decades, the Grinsteins worked to nurture artists here at home and bring them to the center of the international discourse – building something very much like a real family. So it was already a fitting tribute to his legacy when planning began on the impressive benefit art exhibition “The Grinstein Artist Invitational: From Generation to Generation.” Fittingly hosted by Rosamund Felsen Gallery, both the ticketed preview party and subsequent sales of work benefit Inner-City Arts, a youth-centric arts organization close to the Grinsteins' hearts. The show itself is formulated as an intergenerational, pay-it-forward homage to inclusive enthusiasm, as one round of artists features those now-established voices first helped by the couple – and another group features younger artists invited by the first round. Rosamund Felsen Gallery, Bergamot Station Art Center, 2525 Michigan Ave., B4, Santa Monica; Wed., May 28, 5:30-8:30 p.m.; $100. Exhibition continues through Sat., June 1, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; free.
