Ilan Hall likes pigs. So much so that he roasted a whole pig outside his downtown restaurant The Gorbals before it even opened. Tomorrow night, Hall will do it again, roasting a whole pig on a spit outside the Alexandria Hotel where the restaurant makes its home during Downtown Art Walk. Instead of men on stilts like the last time (see below), Hall will be bringing in Scottish bagpipers. The chef might have a whole lamb on the spit too, just for fun, but as of yesterday he wasn't sure. Definitely the pig, though.

Thursdays are usually hopping at The Gorbals anyway, as they have Reverse Happy Hour, i.e. half price beer and wine between 10:30 p.m. and 2 a.m. And there will be a band playing later on too, the Los Angeles gypsy jazz band The Petrojvic Blasting Company. Great name, eh? Just the thing to come on after bagpipes and a pig roast.

The Gorbals: In the Alexandria Hotel, 501 S. Spring St., Los Angeles; (213) 488-3408.
