What the George Foreman Grill did for cooking meat, the Babycakes Cupcake Maker hopes to do for cupcakes. Recently spotted in the Cambria Cove catalog, it comes in two colors — Vanilla Cream or Pink (what, no red velvet?) — and promises to make eight mini-cupcakes in 5-8 minutes. It's an Easy-Bake Oven for grown-ups, a notion that's brilliant and terrifying.

Brilliant because who doesn't want quick, easy cupcakes? Terrifying because the cupcake-making process, in deference to waistlines everywhere, shouldn't be made easier.

Besides, can the cupcakes from this contraption possibly taste good? Then again, I was wary of the George Foreman Grill, but for a brief, healthy period of my life, it was my go-to grill pan.

Still, I'm skeptical of the ad copy that claims it allows you to churn out “conversation-making hors d'oeuvres” like mini-pies, tartlets, quiches and scones. Got $40? You can find out for yourself.
