“The name of the show was born out of our passion for being a bit obnoxious. Plus, who doesn't like alliteration?” says Joel Mandelkorn, who produces the monthly The Super Serious Show with Betsy Koch and Mandee Johnson. Mixing sketch, musical comedy and short character bits in with the standup, Mandelkorn can boast such past performers as Sarah Silverman, Weird Al Yankovic, Daniel Tosh, Demetri Martin, Chris Hardwick, Aisha Tyler, Reggie Watts, Margaret Cho, David Koechner, Marc Maron and Thomas Lennon. “We're into comedians that take chances and own the stage persona. Messing around with the audience is always fun, too,” he says. And who are some up-and-comers we should all know about? “Andy Peters, Hampton Yount, Kirk Zipfel, Jerrod Carmichael, Nigel Lawrence, Melissa Villasenor and Drennon Davis” are all names to watch. For this installment, it's Johnny Pemberton and T.J. Miller, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Sean Conroy, Barry Rothbart and more. Fais Do-Do, 5253 Adams Blvd.; Thurs., Jan. 19, 7 p.m.; $20, $13 in advance, includes free beer & wine. superseriousshow.com.
