In the early '70s, new ground was being broken in San Bernardino — the day of the lowrider dawned on the Inland Empire and nothing would ever be the same. There were two ways to go: as a lone wolf, or as the builders of empire. The Torres Empire's “We Are Family” Lowrider Super Show is the latest manifestation of the lowrider kingdom founded by brothers Mario, Noah and Sam Torres in the Inland Empire for the past four decades. Lately, the Empire has expanded with a Torres Empire Body Shop in the modest city of Arlington, Texas. Last year's lowrider show was packed with cars — a multicolored cascade of automotive life flourishing in a wasteland that otherwise would be intolerable without it.
