You can always tell it's summer in L.A. when there's a plethora of combo movie screening/food truck/live music events taking over outdoor spaces around the city. One of the most promising of these gatherings is the Eat See Hear series, which takes place in downtown's State Historic Park, just north of Chinatown. The band: Beach Party. The food trucks (subject to change): Currywurst, No Jodas Kitchen, Melt Bus, White Rabbit, Coolhaus and Crepe de Ville. The movie? Well, in order to talk about it, we'll have to break the first and the second rules (wink, wink). Just make sure to swallow your curry sauce–drenched sausages early so you don't lose your appetite when Edward Norton turns Jared Leto's face into bangers and mash. You can watch the bloody, violent, scar tissue–replete Fight Club (1999) from a cozy picnic blanket, or cuddle up with your cutie pie and gaze at Brad Pitt's 40-foot-high abs from inside your car for a more retro, drive-in feel. One of the most amusing benefits of the screening is that you can buy a more expensive “Fashionably Late” pass, which guarantees you a seat down front should you anticipate arriving late. And you can bring your dog — clearly, the organizers know the L.A. audience. If you do arrive late and end up arguing over a parking spot, just remember rule No. 7: Fights will go on as long as they have to! L.A. State Historic Park, 1245 N. Spring St., dwntwn.; Sat., June 15, doors 5:30 p.m., band 7 p.m., movie 8:30 p.m.; $10 ($8 under 12) presale, $12 at the door (limited), $20 late pass. eatseehear.com.
