The world has changed a great deal since openly-gay artist George Quaintance created these paintings in the late 1940s and early 1950s. It was a pre-Stonewall, pre-gay rights era in which not only was homosexuality taboo, but expressions of it such as these were borderline illegal. Now, L.A.'s TASCHEN Gallery features his work in their exhibit, “The Flamboyant Life and Forbidden Art of George Quaintance,” which is the first public show of his art. Catch the exhibit between July 3rd and August 31, 2015.
