Michael Been, vocalist and guitarist of the influential Bay Area band The Call, passed away yesterday after suffering a heart attack backstage at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium. Been was also the father of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Robert Levon Been, and worked as the band's sound engineer on tour.

According to reports from the festival , Been collapsed backstage and Belgian doctors tried to revive the 60-year-old. Chokri Mahassine, organizer of Pukkelpop, released a translated statement about the incident: “[Been] was taken ill in the backstage area. First aid was immediately administrated and the Red Cross and medical teams were immediately at the scene.” He was declared dead at Salvator Hasselt hospital.

No word on BRMC's tour, or their upcoming performances with Stone Temple Pilots, but we will keep you updated.
