This Saturday, La Monarca Bakery kicks off Cakes for a Cause, a three-month campaign aimed at preserving the habitat of the monarch butterfly, the bakery's namesake. Coinciding with the butterflies' annual northward migration in the spring, the bakery will donate 20% of revenue from all cakes purchased between March 19th and June 30th to the ECOLIFE Foundation. It's too late for a rosca de reyes, but perhaps a tres leches?

Saturday's event, held from 2 to 4 p.m. will feature complimentary pan dulce, traditional Mexican beverages and live mariachi music. Over the next few months, La Monarca (@LaMonarcaBakery) will also host a couple different Twitter contests in which the winners will receive a free 7″ cake of their choice.
