Talk about a scheduling conflict: The same day that the Peabody Award–winning runaway hit Justified returns to FX for a third season, creator Elmore Leonard, star Timothy Olyphant and executive producer Graham Yost convene for the Writers Bloc-presented “A Justified Evening.” Leonard, not the most gregarious social butterfly at age 86, appears onstage with Olyphant, who plays semi-broken Southern U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, a character at the heart of Leonard's latest novel, Raylan. Cinematic adaptations of Leonard's works run the gamut from the lethally awful (Be Cool, with John Travolta) to the decently entertaining (Charles Bronson in Mr. Majestyk) — but Justified is that rare, riveting creature for which the word “entertainment” was created. Tonight's panel and screening conclude with a book signing by Leonard. If you remember that the Norman Mailer appearance that Writers Bloc produced in 2007 turned out to be his final appearance in L.A., tonight might be the night to thank Christ for the DVR and actually show up for once.
