Intronaut, Scale The Summit
Intronaut are powerful merchants of sludge and psychedelics. Recent albums such as 2013's Habitual Levitations have seen the Los Angeles quartet become more melodic, but there are still plenty of crushing riffs to inspire headbanging, as well as insanely technical musicianship to make prog-nerds geek out. Speaking of which, openers Scale The Summit's new album, The Migration, is being called an album of the year candidate.

Weedeater
This North Carolina trio sets out to define “stoner metal.” Since 1997, these beasts have prided themselves on the heaviest Black Sabbath-inspired riffs and floor-rumbling sounds. Expect a good buzz from this show, even if the music seems a little harsh at first.

Destroy L.A. Hardcore Festival
Expect some of the most violent mosh pits ever for this two-day festival. The first night is headlined by Los Angeles' Infest, who are credited as a pioneer of the powerviolence genre, combining raw speed, anger, and punk into a vigorous take no prisoners approach. There are plenty of younger bands on the bill that weekend — we're especially digging local hardcore group Rotting Out's new album The Wrong Way — but they all will need to be in top form to match the old guys if earlier performances this year are any indication.
Lycus

Lycus
This Oakland group's Tempest is a hypnotizing trip through all of the funeral-doom tropes. Lycus is moody and slow-building, like others in the genre, but the guitar tones here are incredibly warm, and the sound changes up just enough to keep you from getting lost in the hypnosis. There's even a few sludge riffs on the twenty-minute title track, which isn't too surprising given the band's NorCal roots.
Dillinger Escape Plan

Summer Slaughter
Tour headliners Dillinger Escape Plan put on an insane set at this year's Revolver Golden God Awards that disturbed the shit out of everyone present. Blood, fire, and mass destruction of musical instruments ensued…and that was one of the more boring Dillinger Escape Plan sets we have witnessed. The group's newest album One of Us Is The Killer shows a band that is now quite comfortable in their Faith No More-on-steroids-and-meth sound. Also on the bill are Weekly reader favorites, instru-metal prodigies Animals As Leaders.
Into Eternity

Into Eternity
Into Eternity built their name in the last decade with heavy thrash riffage and by inspiring intricate air guitar motions from those trying to keep up with the more proggy indulgences of guitarist Tim Roth. The group is readying their first album since 2008's stellar concept album The Incurable Tragedy. It will also be their first with new vocalist Amanda Kiernan. This show should provide L.A. fans with an intimate look at what the band's future will be like.
