“The Best Gig I Ever Saw” is a weekly column that will see us ask a musician to chat about their favorite concert thus far. This week it’s Harley Quinn Smith — one half of bubblegum punk band The Tenth, daughter of Kevin Smith and star of Jay & Silent Bob Reboot…

Right before My Chemical Romance broke up, they played at a music festival in Jersey called Bamboozle. I was absolutely obsessed with My Chemical Romance, more than anyone has ever loved anything. My parents surprised me with tickets to the festival and it was a dream come true because at that time, I started to really love My Chem after all their albums came out, after Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys and everything, so it’s not like they were touring regularly but they were playing at this festival.

We got to watch from the stage. I was standing on an amp watching My Chemical Romance play, and I will never, ever in my life forget that. It was a surreal experience. We could look out and see the thousands of people that were there, watching my favorite band in the entire universe from the side of the stage. A magical experience. I’m pretty certain that was their last show ever. I love The Umbrella Academy so much too.
