“The Best Gig I Ever Saw” is a weekly column that will see us ask a musician to chat about their favorite concert thus far. This week it’s Chip Z’nuff of Enuff Z’nuff…

The best gig I ever saw was in March 8 1975 with Queen at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, Illinois supporting their Sheer Heart Attack record although the band played songs off their first two records as well. The venue’s capacity was about 4,500 and the show was well attended. Queen was very colorful and certainly flamboyant with a nod to glam and glitterrock, and “Killer Queen” was the smash hit song on that release. After two underground records, radio finally embraced the band. After the show, me and my friend Billy Fawcett (who eventually started working with Cheap Trick) waited for the band to leave the venue. Brian May waved to us and Freddie gave us the peace sign upon departure. We’ve been chasing that carrot ever since that illustrious historical concert. I’ve seen Queen 4 times since, once with Bebop Deluxe along with Bill Nelson’s “red noise” and Thin Lizzy with Gary Moore on guitar. Magnificent memories that I’ve cherished through life!

Enuff Z’nuff plays wth Death Valley Gypsies, Angeles, Prima Donna Rising, Temple Monarc, Decapitation of a New Day and Bound Within at 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 29 at the Whisky A Go Go.
