Thursday, October 2
GZA, Black Fantastic
THE ECHOPLEX

GZA uses a lot of words that we can't understand, but we don't hold that against him. Raw, provocative rhymes are the rapper's forte — occasionally he'll drop a track that explains the beginning of the universe, too. He and the rest of the Wu-Tang Clan just made a comeback of sorts, but a Genius solo show can be even more satisfying. At the Echoplex he'll be joined by Black Fantastic, the jazzy, funky Illinois duo whose instrumental EP Light Loops is the perfect soundtrack for a chill October night.

Glass Animals
ORIGAMI VINYL

The first band signed to Wolf Tone Records, the label founded by legendary UK producer Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence + the Machine, Bloc Party), Oxford indie act Glass Animals made waves with their debut LP, Zaba, back in June. Glass Animals falls somewhere in-between the quirky genius of Alt-J and the deliciously dismal sound of the XX. They also do a super sexy, almost-acappella cover of Kanye West's “Love Lockdown,” and that alone is worth checking out.

Saturday, October, 11
Black Sabbitch
BRAKEMAN BREWERY

In case you missed them at Bedrocktoberfest, Black Sabbitch is back and ready to shred. The all-female tribute to the heaviest metalers in history skillfully take on Black Sabbath's expansive repertoire, as well as their attitude. For fans of Sabbath — and women who rock hard — this is not one to miss.

Title TK
THE GETTY CENTER

Title TK is a band that wears instruments strapped to them on stage, but doesn't play them. In fact, “band” might not be the right thing to call them, since their “performance,” and debut LP, ROCK$, consists of members Alan Licht, Cory Arcangel, and Howie Chen just having a conversation about the copious amount of bands in the world right now. While the concept of Title TK may get lost in the irony for some, for others, they make interesting commentary on the music industry.

Monday, October 13
Laura Welsh, The Kite String Tangle, Swimm
BARDOT HOLLYWOOD

After making waves with singles “Cold Front” and “Break the Fall,” Welsh has been a UK artist to watch since 2013. The soulful pop songstress makes her first appearances in the U.S. with two shows in California (San Francisco and Hollywood) before returning to London later this month. She is joined by the less dubby James Blake-ain sounding The Kite String Tangle and ephemeral indie rockers Swimm.


Saturday, October 18
Girl Tears
ORIGAMI VINYL

After returning from tour with California punkers Terry Malts and on the heels of their debut album (out last month), Tension, local underground favorites Girl Tears bring their scuzzy lo-fi sound to their hometown of L.A. 

Sunday, October 19
Edward Murray
IMMANUEL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

After years of raking in prizes at national and international competitions (American Guild of Organists National Organ Playing Competition, the Concours Suisse de l’orgue) and performing with countless orchestras including the Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Opera, legendary organist Edward Murray plays at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church, where he serves as the Director of Music, for a uniquely intimate solo performance.
