Amoeba teams up with NerdMelt (Meltdown Comics + Nerdist) to present Folk Hero comedian Nick Thune in a fundraiser for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music. Thune will be auctioning off some pretty sweet swag, from concert tickets to collectibles and gift certificates, all in the name of supporting free music education for kids. Jody Jaress

Honored this year as a Living Legend by the Living Legends Foundation—which honors Jazz and Blues artists for stellar lifelong careers, Jody Jaress lives up to her award. Having spent her early years opening for the likes of Louis Armstrong, Dinah Shore and Harry Belafonte, Jaress paved the road to her own spotlight while raising funds for charities such as We Are The Children, the Angel Food Foundation, the and AIDS Healthcare Foundation. She has received several independent film festival awards for acting, and serving on the board of the International Student Film Festival Hollywood. After nearly 30 years, Jaress still performs at her peak, with no sign of slowing down.

It's not often that a musical mastermind starts a record label solely to release the music of one artist. Actually, we'd bet that never happens, except in the case of singer-songwriter Jessica Pratt, who was discovered by Tim Presley (White Fence, Darker My Love, and frequent Ty Segall collaborator) and whose music prompted the creation of Birth Records in 2012. If that's not enough to convince you to catch Pratt, whose music is compared to the styles of Joan Baez, David Crosby and Joni Mitchell, just think about the Getty's gorgeous sunset views of the city.

Hey, we know it's been a rough decade for pop punk, post-hardcore, and emo fans; you might be the only one you know still shopping at Hot Topic, and having to relive all your embarrassing, heavy eye-linered, side-swept bang selfies when you rediscovered your MySpace page was probably pretty painful. We're here for you, and so is Norma Jean. The metalcore band, which achieved major success in the aughts snagging a Grammy nomination for Best Recording Package for O God, the Aftermath (2006), rides the wave of the emo comeback into a free show at Los Globos. You've got a few weeks to prep your vocal chords for all that throat singing, so bulk up on the tea and honey.

Following a successful two-album run with Sub Pop Records, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Avi Zahner-Isenberg announced that he was done with the fast life. Opting for more behind-the-scenes work producing for local artists (Arjuna Genome, Litronix, Sevendys), Zahner-Isenberg's performances as Avi Buffalo have become increasingly rare, and far more intimate. You may never again catch Avi Buffalo touring the festival circuit (or touring at all, really), but you really should catch them while you can at Taix.
Agent Orange

Back in the late 1970s and '80s, Agent Orange was in the same league as Black Flag, the Germs, X, and tons of other acts heralded as the founders of the SoCal punk movement. And guess what? They're still kicking ass and taking names decades later. Don't miss your chance to witness punk history in the present.
