The passing of Bettie Page brings to mind how, last fall, Antinous Press released Bruce of Los Angeles: Inside/Outside, a collection of images by gay-beefcake photographer Bruce Bellas from the “Bettie” modeling era of the 1950s and '60s. The book, besides presenting images of Bruce of L.A.'s nude and near-nude men, included a “bonus” CD with some of the auteur's silent film footage of guys doin' backyard stuff in their skivvies — things like mowing the lawn and lifting weights. The publisher tried to drum up interest in the book by YouTubing clips from the DVD on Vimeo and BuzzFeed, but YouTube took some of the buzz off by shutting down one of the CD's clips, “Rassling,” on the grounds it was too risque. The clip below counts as among the collection's more G-string rated. It was, as they say in obituaries and book reviews, a more innocent time.
