Lectroids? Planet 10? Nuclear extortion? A girl named “John”? All these questions and more will be answered during tonight's screening of The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. But perhaps the most burning question might be, “Why is there a live Greg Proops podcast taping happening on the same night?” Proops, the comedian best described for purposes of this brief interlude as a cross between Brainiac and Clark Kent, first tasted populist notoriety with his seemingly countless appearances on comedy improv maelstrom Whose Line Is It Anyway? Currently enjoying the title of “The Smartest Man in the World” — just try to challenge him on that — his weekly hourlong “Proopcast” is a glimmer of a glimpse into the roiling intellectual wetwork that is his mental process: Where others have synapses, he has fireworks. Preceding Proops is the screening of the film about Buckaroo Banzai (played by staunchly stone-faced Peter Weller), the test driver/physicist/rock star who saves the world. And if you ever wanted to see a movie in which Billy Vera is diametrically opposed to Rosalind Cash, this is your night! Cinefamily, 611 N. Fairfax Ave.; Mon., June 25, 7:30 p.m., $12.
