Comic-Con has begun and Geek Couture was on full display at the “Her Universe Fashion Show.” Twenty-five designers debuted their cosplay couture inspired by everything from DuckTales to Veronica Mars, after going through a rigorous process, applying with sketches of the proposed work as well as examples of previous work. Hundreds of submissions were narrowed down to just 25 designers who were given several months to complete their looks for the show.
The sixth annual fashion event entitled “The Power of Fashion” is the brainchild of host/Her Universe Founder Ashley Eckstein (Star Wars’ Ahsoka Tano) Ashley opened the runway show with a gown inspired by DreamWorks Animation’s She-Ra and the Princess of Power and designed by 2014 Her Universe Fashion Show Winner Andrew MacLaine, with custom accessories by designer Harmony Leiker. Two of the 25 designers took home the title of “Her Universe” winner.
Also debuting on the runway were designs from the Disney dress shop, and the hotly anticipated 50th anniversary Haunted Mansion Collection. The evening concluded with designs from the junior designers.
