This week I review L&E Oyster Bar in Silver Lake. Here are a few outtakes from the review to whet your appetite:

Food: The star of the show here is the oysters, from all over the Northeast, West Coast and as far away as New Zealand. But there's also simple grilled fish, refreshing salads and a fantastic steak sandwich.

Drinks: L&E serves only beer and wine, but the wine list is smart, and full of great pairings for seafood.

Looks: Paris/Brooklyn/bistro chic. From the review: “L&E's vibe is a mix of Parisian bistro and Brooklyn funk — the small, curved bar, ornate, round light fixtures and sidewalk seating all Paris, and the friendly, hipster staff and plastic-letter light-up signs displaying the oysters of the day all Brooklyn.”

Price: Kind of a bargain, actually. The daily dozen — four each of chef's choice of oysters — is $28, and most entrees are around $15. This isn't cheap eats, certainly, but it's on the less expensive end of what can be a fairly luxurious-feeling night out.

Takeaway: In many ways, the perfect neighborhood restaurant. From the review: “A dozen of those on a plate, frigid and gleaming, a glass of rosé, and the laid-back nightlife of Silver Lake swirling around you, it's hard not to feel soothed and renewed, and immensely grateful for a neighborhood restaurant done right.”
