With their 2007 collaboration engagingly titled Pinky Swear, choreographers Kate Hutter andQ Kevin Williamson served notice that they and the Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Company deserved attention for an ironic sense of humor as well as for their dance-making. Over the intervening years, the company and the choreographers have continued to build a following, Hutter primarily with LACDC and Williamson with LACDC along with independent projects. Hutter and Williamson reunite for PS2 (as in Pinky Swear 2) to further pursue the long-form improvised dance theater theme first explored five years ago. The nine-member company includes both choreographers. Eric Mason, another Pinky Swear returnee, will employ cello, keyboard and computer to create a soundscape to support and enhance the spontaneity of this type of structured improvisation. The choreographers may set some starting points, ending points and landmarks on the route, but the alchemy of the dancers, musician and audience will dictate the scenes along the route and perhaps some interesting detours.
