FRIDAY, JUNE 17 A hipster tipster (okay, publicist) tells us that the first annual DeviantART
Summit will have “Burning Man flair” to spare. It’s a two-day gathering
of the digital-art community and their fans. Planned are classes and panels, plus
live nude drawing and something called the Creation Station, where Burning Man–man
Keith Greco will be at the center of a ginormous tent that offers any artist so
inclined to contribute to the installation. Also on sale: That Burning Man Feeling
spray, which re-creates the popular and really vile body odor. Hollywood Palladium,
6215 Sunset Blvd.; Fri., June 17, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.; Sat., June 18, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.;
$70, $55 in advance.

album, A Mexico Con Amor. And by the time Trio Los
Panchos, “the number-one group from the Golden Age of the boleros,” performs,

SUNDAY, JUNE 19

“Daddy, why do you speak with an American accent whilst living with us in this
knobby English country cottage?” “Well, Jemima and Jeremy, if you ever saw my
performance in Mary Poppins trying to do a Cockney accent, you’d
understand.” We love you anyway, Dick Van Dyke. It’s Father’s Day, and chances
are the dad in your life does not want to attend a family matinee of Chitty
Chitty Bang Bang, but in case he does, here: Aero
Theater, 1328
Montana Ave., Santa Monica; Sun., June 19, 2 p.m.; $9. (323) 466-FILM.

just in! Free roller-coaster rides for all fathers today from 11 a.m. to
11 p.m. at Pacific Park on the Santa
Monica Pier

and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs.”

coffin that contained his mummified internal organs), other tombs from the Valley

TUESDAY, JUNE 21
“It’s going to be the greatest Jewish funhouse since the Second Temple,” promises
Heeb magazine (“the new Jew review”) about Heeb
Storytelling.
Already a shlager in the Big Epl (love that online Yiddish dictionary!),
the show features stories by Aimee Bender, Eric Friedman, Stephen Glass, Lori
Gottleib and Wendy Spero, plus hosts the Sklar Brothers, in an evening that should
be the Jew to-do of the week. At Three Clubs, 1123 N.
Vine St., Hlywd.; Tues., June 21, 7:30
p.m.; $5 suggested donation. www.heebmagazine.com.
After-party at La-La Land Gallery, 6450

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22
Steve Cohen didn’t want to be a magician. He wanted to study patent law, but got
the hocus-pocus bug at the age of 5 when he figured out that it was a regular
drinking straw making the hankie appear to stand up on its own. Today, he’s considered
one of the sneakiest in the biz, according to fans Martha Stewart and David Rockefeller,
who should know. He brings his acclaimed Chamber
Magic show from
NYC’s Waldorf-Astoria Hotel to Beverly Hills for four performances. At the
Beverly Wilshire Hotel, 9500 Wilshire Blvd.,
Beverly Hills; Tues.-Wed., June 21–22, 7
& 9 p.m.; $50. (310) 275-5200.

THURSDAY, JUNE 23

Speaking of relics, the rides of Queen Elizabeth, Pope John Paul II and others
of far too much power are spotlighted in “Presidents,
Popes and
Potentates”
at the Petersen Automotive Museum. By examining the
cars of heads of state, viewers learn about the unique uses of transport for parades
and royal processions. But can this be as interesting as learning that the horses
in the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace are “corked” before certain
ceremonies? As is the Queen herself, if you ask our opinion. At 6060
Wilshire Blvd.; thru Jan. 22, 2006;
open Tues.–Sun., 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; $10,
$5 seniors & students, $3 children 5–12,
under 5 free; parking $6. (323) 930-CARS.
