Atwater Village's Kickstarter-funded “restaurant project” Thank You for Coming announced yesterday that it had finally received its approval from the L.A. County Health Department and plans to host its first open house on June 21, from noon to midnight.

Thank You for Coming aims to become L.A.'s first collaborative restaurant. It will be run through an “interdisciplinary rotating residency program,” which will host creative and kitchen-minded types who want to volunteer their time to cook, serve food, tend to the backyard garden or otherwise help run the self-sufficient operation (it's all very Portlandia). Owners Laura Noguera, Jonathan Robert, Jenn Su Taohan and Cynthia Su Taopin raised more than $10,000 on Kickstarter and received a $1,000 grant from the Awesome Foundation, which allowed them to fund the installation of a small kitchen and dining area inside a former Atwater Village art gallery.

TYFC now is hosting open calls for 2012 residents — including anyone with “secret talents, rad ideas and good vibrations.” Residents will need to make and serve food while in residence, but don't necessarily have to be a professionally trained chef or restaurateur. So if you've ever wanted to perfect your homemade recipe for pickled watermelon rinds or macrobiotic egg salad, this might be the place to try it out. The June 21 “summer solstice hangout” will include musical stylings and performances, snacks, egg balancing, live screenprinting, piñatas, birthday cake and film screenings in the space's courtyard after dusk. If that sounds like your kind of bar, you can RSVP here. If you'd like to contact TYFC about working in residency, you can reach them at hello@thankyouforcoming.la

Thank You for Coming: 3416 Glendale Blvd., Los Angeles.
