Dublab’s 10th-anniversary celebration is a typically inspired program of events, and occurs on 10 consecutive nights at 10 different locations around town. Below is a synopsis of the activities.

Thursday, October 1
Vibrant Visions is a retrospective of Dublab’s original art exhibitions over the years, and will take place at the Continental Gallery downtown with a selection of works from its Up Our Sleeve, The Dream Scene and Into Infinity shows. There will also be an art auction, as well as a show of new works from artists in the extended Dublab family. This first day also sees the debut of the Dublab pop-up shop, open throughout October and offering limited-edition Dublab vinyl, CDs, posters, T-shirts and more.

Friday, October 2
In addition to its influence on the L.A. music scene, Dublab has been involved in the experimental film and music-video world. Through an ongoing series called Labrat Matinee, the collective has shown its film and video work to Angelenos. Friday at the Downtown Independent Theater, a series called “A Labrat Matinee VII: The Dublab 10th Anniversary Edition” will feature the group’s music videos, comedy clips, animation “and other eye-melting magic.” Producer Alfred “Daedelus” Darlington will perform live.

Saturday, October 3
The Dublab celebration travels to the Eagle Rock Music Festival, where it will offer a taste of its “future roots music” on a dedicated stage. Slated to perform are Julia Holter, Nanny Cantaloupe, Bali & Beyond Gamelan Ensemble, the Gaslamp Killer, Michael White Quintet featuring vocalist Leisei Chen, Mas Exitos, Buyepongo and the Dub Club “Echodelic Soundsystem” featuring dance-hall pioneer Ranking Joe. This event is hosted by Dublab operative Carlos Niño.

Sunday, October 4
Dublab infiltrates the Part Time Punks weekly showcase at the Echo in Echo Park; the collective’s Ale, Hoseh, Kutmah and Marion will spin tasteful sounds for the entire evening.

Monday, October 5
One of the great Dublab nights has always been its “Give Up” evenings, in which Mark “Frosty” McNeill and Jimmy “Dntel” Tamborello spin sad songs for the desperate, lonely and brokenhearted. Or, as Dublab describes it: “Watch depressing images flicker through wet eyes as Dublab DJs provide the sorrow-soaked songs to accompany tear-soaked cinema.” This takes place from 7:30 p.m. to midnight at Cinefamily at the Silent Movie Theatre.

Tuesday, October 6
The program at Verdugo Bar in Glassell Park looks great: Deckades: A Journey Through Generations of Sound will feature Dublab DJs moving through decades of music, starting with the 1920s and continuing to the present. “You’ll hear obscure and sublime gems excavated from all corners of the globe.”

Wednesday, October 7
Linda Perhacs’ gorgeous 1970 folk album, Parallelograms, perfectly captures the essence of the Dublab spirit by combining melody and tape manipulation to create stunning beauty. On this special night at REDCAT, Perhacs and friends — in a first-ever performance of this music — will perform Parallelograms in its entirety. Those slated to appear include Aaron Robinson, Ben Knight, Blank Blue, Hecuba, L.A. Ladies Choir, Mia Doi Todd, Rio en Medio, Tom Brosseau, We Are the World and others. As well, Dublab will screen short films inspired by Perhacs’ work, by, among others, Daft Punk, Hecuba, Jessica Hundley, John Wyatt, Kelly Sears, Matt Amato, Maximilla Lukacs and Nicole McDonald. And choreographer/Sweaty Sundays founder Ryan Heffington will offer new dances inspired by Perhacs’ album.

Thursday, October 8
Dublab returns to the Continental Gallery to kick it during the monthly downtown Art Walk. The collective will show its art and films, and soundtrack them with music created specifically for the event.

Friday, October 9
John Lennon’s birthday celebration will feature a “bed-in radio broadcast.” Wha? “Hosts Carlos and Azul Niño, Frosty and Ale welcome musical friends to the KPFK studios for an evening of live performances and DJ sets inspired by John Lennon’s creative spirit.” For this event, Dublab is encouraging people to have house parties and “gather around the radio for an evening of unforgettable vibrations. Potlucks, slumber parties, beard growing and bouncing in bed are all highly encouraged.”

Saturday, October 10
What Dublab is calling “the ultimate dance party” will be just that: a “grand finale” record spin at a to-be-determined location, celebrating the past decade and inaugurating the new one. The venue will be announced on the day of the show.
