Thanksgiving is for turkeys and Christmas Eve for church-goers — but New Year's Eve? That's the night for a party! It may be amateur night to many, but the promoters behind these are anything but. Here are the 10 most promising parties in the clubs planned for L.A. this Dec. 31.

9. Expansion

Here's the perfect opportunity to start your new year by expanding your musical palette, Expansion offers an eccentric mesh of musical stylists. Daedelus headlines (what the arty electronic madman has planned for midnight is anyone's guess), while supporting talent includes lo-fi hip-hop flowster Robert Raimon Roy (who was discovered by Erykah Badu, of all peeps) and pianist/beatsmith TokiMonsta (Jennifer Lee). 8. Diamond Ball NYE 2013

Start the new year off gay with this multi-faceted mega-fete from the promoters behind Hype Fridays & Stripper Circus. Diamonds are a boy's best friend at this one: “Thousands of shimmering diamonds” will adorn the club, plus state-of-the-art lasers and lights. At midnight, instead of the ball dropping, they're doing a diamond drop. Three dance floors, DJs including Derek Monteiro & Ryan Kenney spinning dance & top 40, and rock-hard Go Go boys should make this one shine brighter than the best cubic zirconia. At Ultra Suede, 661 N Robertson Blvd. West Hollywood. www.DiamondBall.net. Facebook invite: https://www.facebook.com/events/474416379268722/

7. New Year Emerges With SSION & Casey Spooner

The unconventional and somewhat unlikely pairing of SSION's Cody and Fischerspooner's Casey Spooner, on the Sunset Strip no less, should make for pan-sexual shenanigans of the craziest kind. SSION bring their shameless art rock (live) to the Standard and host DJs Kim Anh (Booby Trap! / Saint Le Roq), Saratonin (Modern Love), Aaron Castle (Full House, The Hump), Sandra Le (Dick & Fanny, UK) provide sounds for dancing and debauchery before and after. Spooner is master of ceremonies, so we expect a colorful countdown to say the least. Admission includes a free midnight champagne toast. At the Standard Hollywood, 8300 W. Sunset Blvd. Facebook invite here.

6. Groovy New Year

Sometimes looking forward means looking back — way back. Two of L.A.'s most rockin' retro-themed underground clubs are teaming up to ring in the new year with a special non-stop grindfest that'll have you partying like it's 1966. DJs Soulshaker (The Bullet) and Jason Pandora (Blackeyed Soul Club) helm the decks and special guests Tony The Tyger and Mick Marsh spin mod, garage, psyche, northern soul and R&B. 60s video projections, food served 'til 11 p.m. and free parking make this a no-frills freakout for the go-go boot grind set. At Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill, 6122 Sunset Blvd. Facebook invite here.

4. Saints & Sinners

Were you a good little angel — or a big ol' devil this year? Either way, this shindig at the Roosevelt Hotel will have something for you. Now in its 10th year, the Homemade event features Eva Simons (singer with Afrojack, Will.i.am and ZEdd) performing live and doing the midnight countdown. The party will also feature DJ Adam Auburn spinning plus Mei Lwun, David Bullock, Anthony Shah, Derwin McRoth, Bernard Thomas & Victor Yim, DJ Kat and, swe suspect, a bevy of bodacious ladies in skimpy devil and angel garb. Midnight toast and complimentary noisemakers come with your admission. The event spans the entire property including Teddys, the Blossom Ballroom, the Tropicana pool and the historic lobby. Room Reservations: 800-950-7667… Table Reservations: adam@auburneventsla.com. Tickets at https://bit.ly/NYEROOSEVELT2012. Facebook invite here.

3. Golden New Years Eve 2013

L.A.'s party crowd enjoyed many golden moments at the clubs of Luke Nero and Andres Rigal this year, including Mr. Black, Simon Says, SummerTramp and Rasputin. But this 2012 send-off should top 'em all in gilded, giddy fashion. The dance floor will be gleaming and grinding thanks to Josh Peace and Nelstar, as should the entire Robertson space: The patio's hosted by PopTart's Phyliss Navidad, and the basement will be bumpin' with BJ Panda Bear. Event co-hosts include a mixed menagerie of nightlife figures including Jonny Makeup, Candis Cayne and Nova Cayne. At the Robertson, 665 N Robertson Blvd, West Hollywood. 2. Solid Gold NYE with Cedric Gervais

The “gold” theme for this fete means there'll be plenty of gals in gilded clubwear, but this dance party goes beyond fashion. Because New Year's Eve is on a Monday, Hollywood's enduring electronic destination, Monday Social, is throwing it with mega-DJ/producer Cedric Gervais headlining, a pairing that solidify the event as the gold standard in Hollywood for dancing. At Playhouse, 6506 Hollywood Blvd. Tickets and info at https://www.mondaysocial.com

1. Electronic EDN Weekender

There's a ton of New Year's Eve events in Hollywood and even more shindigs we like can be found in this NYE round-up, too. But the Avalon is once again not to be outdone for honors as the biggest party night of the year, stretching it out into a four-night weekender that should take nearly as long to recover from. The theme is “Electronic EDN” (a nod to both EDM and EDEN), celebrating themes of re-birth and the book of Genesis, with elaborate set design featuring illuminated trees and iridescent branches spilling from balconies, go-go dancing “Eves” and garden-esque hedonism where you look. Festivities begin on Fri., 12/28 at Control with Skream, continue on Sat., 12/29 with Swedish DJ duo Cazzette at Avaland, Sunday, 12/30 with Laidback Luke and it all culuminates with Markus Schulz on New Year's Eve, 12/31. https://avalonhollywood.com
