Driver Arrested after DUI Accident on Highway 108; 19-Year-Old Teen Dies

TUOLUMNE CO., CA (September 27, 2021) A 19-year-old passenger lost his life after a tragic DUI accident on Highway 108 last Tuesday.

On Tuesday, September 21, the California Highway Patrol responded to reports of an accident near Highway 108.

According to CHP, a 17-year-old Soulsbyville teen was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma with a 19-year-old Sonora passenger when he lost control of the truck at a curve near Mi-Wuk Village.

The truck then collided with an embankment, overturning and ejecting the passenger.

Responding emergency crews declared the passenger dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, medics airlifted the driver to Doctors Medical Center for treatment after suffering minor injuries.

Officers later booked the driver into the Motherlode Regional Juvenile Detention Center on DUI charges after being released from the hospital.

At this time, authorities have not released the identities of all parties involved. Once available, more information will be released.
