A burglar chose the wrong home last night, cops say. No, it wasn't LL Cool J's place.

This time the residence belonged to Taye Diggs: Cops say the actor, who had been at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, came home to find 20-year-old Hassam Juma going through his garage, looking for stuff to steal.

The suspect ran, police told the Weekly, but he didn't get very far:

Taye of ABC's Private Practice chased the guy down and held him for police, Officer Richard French told us.

*[Corrected]: The situation was reported to cops about 11:20 p.m. Sunday in the 3100 block of Oakdale Drive Oakdell Lane in the San Fernando Valley [in Studio City], police said.

Hassan was arrested on suspicion of felony burglary, French said.

According to sheriff's inmate data, he was being held behind bars in lieu of $50,000 bail.

[Update at 1:39 p.m. Tuesday]: The L.A. County District Attorney's office announced today that Juma has been charged with “one felony count of first degree burglary with a person present … “

The suspect was expected in court today and could face six years behind bars if successfully prosecuted, the D.A.'s office stated.

It gave this account of Sunday's event:

After returning home Sunday from the Screen Actor Guild Awards, the “Private Practice” star discovered a man in the garage, chased him down and detained him until police arrived. LAPD arrested Juma.
