DUI Driver Arrested after Fatal Collision near Loop 202 in Tempe 

TEMPE, AZ (October 20, 2021) – Saturday morning, Tamirah Washington was killed, and George Johnson was arrested after a DUI crash.

Around 5:00 a.m., officers received reports of a serious accident in the area of Loop 202 and Scottsdale Road. Dispatchers responded shortly after.

Suspected to have been under the influence, 37-year-old Johnson was driving a red Nissan Altima at high speeds when he locked the brakes. The vehicle then jumped a curb and struck a steel traffic sign.

The right side of the vehicle suffered severe damage, leaving the passenger with significant injuries. The passenger was identified as 37-year-old Tamirah Washington, and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Due to the extent of her condition, Washington was pronounced dead at the hospital. Meanwhile, Johnson was also treated at the same hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. 

Authorities said he was tested and his preliminary results revealed his blood-alcohol levels were 0.331, leading to his arrest facing a manslaughter charge.
