A report of a suspicious package in a USC library turned out to be a hoax, but the area was evacuated as a precaution.

The report of such a package was phoned into authorities about 12:30 p.m., according to KCAL9 news. The station reported that officials might have known who the caller was and suspected it was a hoax from the beginning, but sent out the troops, including a Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad, anyway.

Leavey Library, in the 3500 block of University Avenue, was evacuated along with surrounding areas as the squad looked around for the package, which apparently was never found.

At about 1:30 p.m. Los Angeles police gave the all-clear, said Officer Cleon Joseph.
