The suspect in the on-stage attack of Dave Chappelle pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges on Friday, May 6.

Isaiah Lee, 23, faces four charges of battery, possession of a weapon with intent to assault, unauthorized access to the stage, and commission of an act that delays the event or interferes with the performer.

The charges were brought forth by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office on May 5, saying the incident did not “constitute” a felony.

“After reviewing the evidence, prosecutors determined that while criminal conduct occurred, the evidence as presented did not constitute felony conduct,” the office said in a statement.

California misdemeanor charges typically carry no more than 1 year in jail.

The attacker rushed the stage during Chappelle’s “Netflix is a Joke” performance at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday, May 3, later being arrested for assault with deadly weapon after police allegedly found a gun-shaped knife in Lee’s possession.

Multiple videos of the incident were posted by crowd members, as the attacker can be seen racing toward Chappelle on-stage, temporarily knocking him off balance before being apprehended by security and taken backstage.

Videos of the suspected attacker were also posted as he was being hauled into an Ambulance and taken to a local hospital with visible injuries to his face.

After Chappelle’s attorney requested a restraining order, Lee was ordered to stay 100 yards from both Chappelle and The Hollywood Bowl venue.

Lee is being held on a $30,000 bond.
