The former Survivor television show producer who was suspected in his wife's death in Mexico has returned to Los Angeles despite warnings by authorities south of the border to stay there as they continued to investigate.

“Bruce Beresford-Redman has returned to Los Angeles County to be with his children and attend to family and personal matters,'' his attorneys, Richard Hirsch and Vicki Podberesky, said in a prepared statement released over the weekend.

His attorneys stated that, despite those warnings, Beresford-Redman was under “no legal obligation to remain in Mexico” because he had not been charged and was not under a court order to stay.

The body of Monica Beresford-Redman was found April 8 in a sewer pipe not far from the couple's Cancun hotel room. Bruce Beresford-Redman had reported her missing, but not before flying their two boys back to L.A. and then returning to Mexico. The two reportedly had marriage troubles, and witnesses at the hotel stated they heard the couple fighting the night before she was reported missing.

Monica Beresford-Redman was a popular figure in L.A.'s community of Brazilian ex-pats. She owned the Brazilian restaurant and venue Zabumba in Palms. A memorial was scheduled for May 30.
