More than half of a small (and decidedly scientifically invalid) number of ex-Los Angeles Times editorial staffers recently surveyed believe the storied paper will eventually close, according to a report published at TheJournalismShop.com on Tuesday.

About 57 percent of 75 former Times editorial employees tracked down through an online group expressed doubt that the paper would survive in the long run. However, nearly two-thirds of those respondents would like to stay in journalism.

While a majority also believed that the day of the newspaper print product was coming to an end across the nation, 42 percent think that journalism will survive in some form.

“I am an optimist when it comes to believing that newspapers will survive because millions of people still read and want reliable, objective news,” wrote one respondent.
