The Mobil gas station clerk on duty said the men were pouring gas onto the car before running away as the fire ignited, according to CBSLA.
The flames burned through the rest of the gas pumps at the station, burning up the Mobil sign on the west end of the roof and leaving debris through the lot. The pay station and store portion of the gas station was not damaged.
While the vehicle’s license plate could not be identified after the blaze, the VIN number showed it to be a 2016 Chevy, according to police.
The suspects remain at large and were last seen running toward the neighboring city of El Monte on Ramona Boulevard.
