If your idea of a solid Super Bowl involves a bowl of weed and a keg of beer, beware:
The LAPD is gearing up for a massive DUI crackdown that starts tonight and peaks on Sunday when the 49ers take on that other team.
Here's your drunk-driver checkpoint and “saturation patrol” cheat sheet for the big weekend:
-The fun will start tonight with a checkpoint at Roscoe Boulevard and Coldwater Canyon Avenue in the Panorama City area. It will happen from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., the LAPD says.
–Saturday from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. there will be a checkpoint at Hyperion Avenue and Scotland Street in Silver Lake.
On Sunday there will be a DUI saturation-patrol offensive in the following LAPD areas:
–Newton and Central (just south of downtown and downtown) from 2 to 10 p.m.
–Topanga from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
–77th Street from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
–Hollywood from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.
A recent AAA study found that drunk-driving deaths and accidents on Super Bowl Sunday have been on the rise in California in recent years.
The LAPD had this to say:
If you are planning or attending a Super Bowl party where alcohol will be served, plan ahead and designate a sober driver.
Be careful. And don't be a loser.
