“To live in harmony with our neighbors,” reads the legend splashed across the Web site for the Sunset Junction Neighborhood Alliance, which operates the annual Sunset Junction Street Fair. The good people of the alliance are likely to get an earful from their neighbors tonight. This is when the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council is scheduled to meet and discuss the increasingly contentious fair. Last year the event charged a $20 daily admission to the August weekend festivities, which are highlighted by musical events interspersed among rides, food stands and crafts tables — this, for a neighborhood celebration that was once free.

Another sore point among small business owners in the area is how the fair's chain-link fencing cuts off foot traffic and isolates the shops, bleeding them of income for two days. Festival head Michael McKinley, who owns the Tsunami Cafe, is expected to field questions and criticisms at tonight's meeting, which begins 7 p.m. at the Micheltorena Elementary School, 1511 Micheltorena Street.
