With summer wrapping up, there's a new set of restaurants, food festivals and roasts to visit. But let's not forget the recently departed: Asuka in Westwood shuttered, Spumoni Italian Cafe & Pizzeria in Brentwood is done, BLT Steak in Weho closed, Jack n' Jill's in Beverly Hills is no more and the historic Tom Bergin's on Fairfax Avenue served its last Guinness.

In opening news, 800 Degrees in Westwood opened a to-go outpost just around the corner from their original location on Lindbrook Avenue. Japanese fried chicken joint, Tokyo Fried Chicken Co., joined the Monterey Park community over Labor Day weekend. New to the Sunset Strip is State Social House from owner Robert Silverberg (Red Rock & Grill, Isla Cantina). You can expect leather-strapped bar stools, stuffy chairs and the same small run of patio overlooking the TMZ buses on Sunset Boulevard that Red Rock used to have.

Coming soon is South End from chef Frank Fermin (Osteria Mozza) and partner Mario Vollera (Piccolo Venice, Barbershop). The wine/pizza bar, nestled between Venice Beach and Marina Del Rey on the south end of Abbot Kinney Boulevard, opens Sept. 14. Specialties include pizza topped with homemade mozzarella, tomato sauce made from slow-roasted Roma tomatoes and other locally sourced foods. Also opening in September is Crème Caramel L.A. In addition to flans, bread puddings, custards and pies, there will be a savory menu with Spanish tortillas and pastries. Read on for a list of recent openings and closings:
