With the Fourth of July landing on a Friday this year, the weekend is sure to get off to a spirited start, and dance clubs around town are bringing in the big guns as usual (Mark Farina at Giant, Hybrid at Avalon and Robert Hood at King King — see listings). Then there are the obligatory pool parties: Dub Frequency Crème de la Crème at the Standard downtown (550 S. Flower St., www.Dubfrequency.com), featuring Million $ Mano, Pacific Division, Mando, Jayvon and Nicky Savage; and Soundscape’s Splash event, with DJ Thuyvu, Johnny Hawkes, Sean Lazarus and more, at the Custom Hotel (8630 Lincoln Blvd., www.myspace.com/soundscapeinc), both during the day Saturday, July 5. Some off-the-wall shindigs you may not have heard about: Velvet Midnight, an after-hours (also from Soundscape) offering, with DJ Micro and more, at Club 740, and Miss Kitty’s surprise Sexual Revolution Ball, which sees the pervy promoters back at the Dragonfly for one night only (www.myspace.com/starfactoryproductions), both on Friday. Two downtown dance-a-thons that are sure set off holiday hell-raising: Outre meets Magnet for polysexual partying and electro humping to DJs, including the Pump Police, Cody Wayne and more, at E3rd Lounge (734 E. Third St., Little Tokyo; www.myspace.com/magnetla) on Saturday, and Club Tilt vs. Indie Krush’s Salute to the Fanny Pack (the fashion accessory, not the music act), at the Airliner (www.myspace.com/tiltsundays), with a carryall of electro DJs on Sunday, July 6. Happy Indepen-dance daze.
