If you’ve never been to The Standard downtown on a summer afternoon, you’re missing out on more than a good tan. Traffic Events takes over the rooftop pool area every Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. to present Room Service, a splash-and-mash with DJs spinning house and chilled techno beats. This week might be one of their funkiest days of fun in the sun ever, as Philly freakster King Britt (known for his past work with Digable Planets) shows he’s still cool like dat, pumpin’ sinuously sensual blends of house, hip-hop, jazz and soul. Britt’s beats are extra deep these days too; he refers to himself as a “vibrationoligist” who takes into account the synchronization and syncopation of the sounds he spins. Cool. Also checkin’ in: Toronto house hotshot Sean Miller — sure to set the roof’s little dance floor on fire — and residents John Do & Justin Gourley (Basic). The Standard, 550 S. Flower St., dwntwn.; Sun., July 15, noon-8 p.m.; for more info and guest list see www.trafficevents.com.

Downtown gets down on a bigger scale the day before with Giant Village’s outdoor event featuring Armin van Buuren. AVB, spinning on a custom-built panoramic platform for this mammoth mover, is a master at epic mixes, so expect him to really heat up the streets. An indoor lounge will feature sets by Desyn Masiello, 16 Bit Lolitas and Jason Bentley. As always, there will be Giant’s Ferris wheel, food and drink. Wilshire Boulevard and Hope Street; Sat., July 14, 8 p.m.-4 a.m.; over 21; $48, tickets available at www.giantvillage.com.

Also, Dance Right celebrates its one-year anniversary with its infamous prom-themed party. Fancy dresses, tuxes (or wacky tuxedo T-shirts) and ironic corsages welcome. DJ Pubes and Diabetic spin dance sounds from those awkward years. La Cita, 336 S. Hill St., dwntwn; Thurs., July 19, 10 p.m.-2 a.m.; over 21; $5. (213) 687-7111.
