How many times have you found yourself at a karaoke bar thinking (1) I wish this menu had some songs I actually liked and (2) I wish I weren't wearing any pants?

It's happened to all of us, I'm sure.

Last night, however, Monday night club Ground Control at Jewel's Catch One solved both of these problems for you. At the club's 7th anniversary celebration, regulars and noobs were informed that “your captain has turned on the NO PANTS light, and you are free to dance about the cabin.”

Karaoke inspires/necessitates liquid courage, so by 10, plenty of tipsy and trouserless clubgoers were grabbing the mic and singing songs from a respectably alternative song menu that included selections from The Dickies, Soul Coughing, Black Flag, The Dead Kennedys, Tenacious D, and nearly an entire page of Bowie.

Rather than moaning as some chick who takes herself way too seriously tries to prove to the world that she's the next American Idol with her stunning Celine Dion tribute, Ground Control is more about getting everyone in the house to sing along. One of the night's best moments had the entire bar singing along fondly to the Violent Femmes “American Music.”

Would you like to go to the prom?
