A few weeks back, Angeli Caffe debuted their first installment of Street Food Mondays, featuring fish and shrimp tacos from Ricky's Fish Tacos. The night was a success, with long waits for the event which was organized by Angeli owner and Good Food host Evan Kleiman, and local food expert Bill Esparza of Street Gourmet LA. Next Monday, August 23rd, a new street food pop-up comes to Angeli from Priyani Dissanayake, chef of the recently closed Priyani Café.

Priyani Café was recently featured by C. Thi Nguyen at the L.A. Times, but even that couldn't keep the restaurant afloat. That means Monday is your one chance to eat Dissanayake's food for the time being. The menu will feature a variety of hoppers, a Sri Lankan street food, as well as some other Sri Lankan dishes. Hoppers, or appam, are thin pancakes made from rice flower, but can also be made with rice noodles (string hoppers), or egg (egg hoppers), among other varieties. Dishes will range between $3.50 and $8.

Street Food Mondays at Angeli Caffe: 7274 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles; (323) 936-9086. Monday, August 23, 5 p.m. – 10 p.m.
