What can Congress do to help musicians, music venues and the industry in general as it struggles with pandemic restrictions and closures? Many people -who love music and who make it- want to know exactly what kind of coronavirus relief efforts might be available, not to mention the perimeters for federal guidelines on restarting live performances. California Rep. Adam Schiff will discuss these urgent topics and more with ASCAP President Paul Williams during the music publishing group’s free virtual conference series ASCAP Experience: Home Edition.  Loss of touring due to Covid-19, compensation to songwriters, booking policies, and the promotion of diversity and racial justice within the industry are also issues to be addressed as the music world looks hopefully to bouncing back, if not this year, then the next. Schiff is not only the badass who called Trump out during impeachment, he’s also a member of the Congressional Arts Caucus and founder of the International Creativity and Theft-Prevention Caucus, so he’s well-versed in copyright law, as well as intellectual property, artists’ rights and the concerns of California’s creative community. Williams of course, is a Grammy/Golden Globe/Oscar-winning songwriter and actor and the familiar face at the helm of ASCAP for the past decade. Thurs., July 23, 2:30-3:15 p.m. PT. Livestream at ascapexperience.com/live-agenda, Youtube video available after at ascapexperience.com/past-programming.
