And now, prosecutors say, the alleged killer, the reported father of the victim's grandchildren, will pay: Suspect Steven Dwayne Brown, 50, was charged this week with the heinous murder:
His arraignment was scheduled for Oct. 30.
Brown was charged this week with “with one count of murder with a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait,” the D.A.'s office said in a statement.
The suspect, who police say also had residential burglary, robbery and possession of a controlled substance on his record, “personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife,” according to the statement.
On Friday, prosecutors allege, Brown fatally stabbed Kellye Taylor, a 53-year-old teacher at Huntington Academy, as she supervised students on recess.
It happened in Orizaba Park.
Taylor is the grandmother of the suspect's four children, and she had custody of his kids, according to reports. The Los Angeles Times reported that Brown felt he lost custody because of Brown.
The D.A.'s office says that, if convicted, Brown could face life in prison or even the death penalty, although prosecutors have not yet decided whether to make this into a capital case.
In the meantime, Brown was being held without bail.
