In the age of iPads and smart phones, typewriters seem as quaint as vinyl records. But Steve Soboroff’s collection of typewriters is worth writing home about – all were previously used by famous people. Soboroff, the President of the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners and a former L.A. mayoral candidate, owns nearly 30 vintage typewriters once belonging to historical figures, including Ernest Hemingway, John Lennon, Orson Welles, Truman Capote, Superman creator Jerry Siegel and Tom Hanks. The one belonging to the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski, was confiscated by the FBI in 1996 and has missing parts that were used to make bombs.
