This Thursday, Steve Cooper of the band Spirit Animal will be heading up a one-night-only, one-seating-only, 4-course dinner at Redwood Bar downtown. This will be his second dinner event. Joining Cooper behind the stoves will be Jack Eaton of Froma on Melrose. Wine pairings are by Matthew Kaner of Bar Covell, and dessert will be prepared by Village Bakery's Jessica Koslow.

Steve Cooper is something of a Renaissance man, with his band Spirit Animal, and his alternative, online cooking show Feed Your Head. He is occasionally referred to as having worked as a chef at Cafe Stella, an idea that he seems to find slightly humorous. “It was six months at Cafe Stella,” said Cooper. “I was the grill chef for like half the time that I was there. A lot of high-paced learning that went on.”

Arrangements for Thursday's dinner came together rather quickly, but proceeds for the next one, whenever it may be, will benefit Greenworld. Thursday's menu will be comprised of chile and black sesame tuna tartar; whole quail with citrus glaze; and an oxtail gnocchi which he describes as a “deconstructed osso buco.” For dessert, Koslow will be making buttermilk panna cotta with farmers market peach gelée and Silverlake hand-foraged fennel tuille. Koslow, an occasional Squid Ink contributor, has also worked for the Beard Award-winning Atlanta restaurant Bacchanalia.

Dinner is this Thursday at 7 p.m. $60 ($80 with wine pairings). Limited space is still available, and interested parties should make reservations via email.
