A young motorcyclist was riding his 2010 Yamaha R6 motorcycle down Vanowen Street in Reseda yesterday afternoon at around 3:20 p.m., when — out of nowhere — a Nissan pickup turned right in front of the motorcycle, driven by 25-year-old Steve Campos.

The truck driver, 56-year-old Roberto Casillas, was immediately booked for murder. KNX news radio reports that investigators believe he did not have the right of way when he turned at Etiwanda Avenue, and for whatever reason, failed to yield.

An LAPD traffic detective from the Valley tells reporter Pete Demetriou that Casillas was driving while impaired at the time of the crash.

“We believe that he was impaired, he was arrested, and we're looking into his background right now,” said the detective this morning. Meanwhile, the 56-year-old is behind held at the Van Nuys jail under $1 million bail.

Campos was pronounced dead at a local hospital after the suspected murder. Did you know the victim? Share below.

Any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with additional information about the suspect/victim, is urged to call Detective Sanchez at (818) 644-8033 or (818) 644- 8021.
