On Sunday, just four days after raging L.A. conservative Andrew Breitbart collapsed dead in Westwood from a probable heart attack at just 43 years old, a similar scene played out in Playa Vista:

Steve Bridges, the 48-year-old comedian best known for his political impersonations (and best best known for his George W. Bush impersonations), was discovered dead in his Los Angeles home by a maid. The New York Daily News reports:

Although no foul play is suspected, an autopsy has been scheduled for the 48-year-old comic, who had just returned home from a gig in China and complained of “super jet lag” when he collapsed.

Bridges once said of China: “The problem with borrowing money from China is an hour later, you feel broke again.”

Chief Craig Harvey at the L.A. County Coroner's Office tells LA Weekly that Bridges' cause of death is unknown, but that the comedian is “scheduled for examination today,” including a toxicology test. Harvey says Bridges was “found unresponsive in his home” in the 5800 block of South Kiyot Way, a nice apartment complex near the Marina.

Bridges was quite friendly with his subjects of mimic, even famously invited by then-President Bush to the 2006 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. At which he called Laura Bush “muy caliente”:

But Bridges wasn't just a Republican-basher. (Breitbart would approve.) Along with Rush Limbaugh and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the L.A. impersonator extraordinaire did a mean Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

Here are some of our favorites.

The real Bush has responded to Bridges' death with a statement to the Associated Press:

“Steve was not only a funny man, but a kind and decent human being. My heartfelt sympathies go out to his parents, his siblings, and his entire family.”
