Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly's first on-screen pairing in 2006's NASCAR-themed Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby had funnier lines — “I wake up in the morning and I piss excellence” — not to mention Sacha Baron Cohen and Jane Lynch, but it was their second collaboration in 2008's Step Brothers that inspired Gallery 1988's latest tribute show of the same name. In the film, Ferrell and Reilly star as man-children who still live at home with their parents and play with swords. This was also the film in which Ferrell wiped his testicles on a set of drums and sang Andrea Bocelli's “Con te Partiro” in Italian. The exhibit's more than four dozen artists contribute paintings, prints, sculpture and even temporary tattoos, which reimagine the characters as everything from the Super Mario Bros. to Ewoks, and include plenty of nut-sack references. Watch the movie or risk missing the inside jokes. Gallery 1988 Venice, 214 Pier Ave., Santa Monica; Wed.-Sun., 11 a.m.-6 p.m.; thru Sept. 22. (424) 238-5988, nineteeneightyeight.com.
