Following the holidays, David Bowie’s birthday is seen as a continuation of celebration and reverence for fans. Los Angeles has been marking the date (Jan. 8) in a big way before and especially since his death in 2016. Of course, with the Omicron variant spreading so rapidly in L.A., outdoor spaces (or venues that have them) seem to be the best bets. Here are two good glam-bams:

UPDATE 1/4/2022- 2 p.m. — Wike has canceled her gathering due to the COVID surge. But many fans are sure to meet at Bowie’s star from around L.A. regardless,  as it has been a popular place to pay respects since his death. If you do, please social distance and wear a mask. As of today, the GoldenYearz event at Zebulon is still on, per the promoters.

Hollywood Walk of Fame – Super-fan Sonia Wike has been holding a vigil and ‘dancing in the street” gathering at David Bowie’s star (located just outside of L.A. Fitness next to CVS in Hollywood Blvd.) for the past 5 years. This Saturday, “the Bowie Tribe” meet-up marks DB’s 75th birthday and will feature Bowie music and remembrance, by fans, mostly connected through social media groups and fan sites. Red shoes and wigs, Aladdin Sae makeup, platforms, glitter and other Bowie regalia is encouraged as are candles, flowers, and pics for his star altar. Though it takes place outside, masks are highly encouraged. 7021 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood. Click here for more info.

GoldenYearz & Zebulon – This annual David Bowie Birthday Bash offers face painting by Miho and DJs d’Escargot & d’Animal spinning the best of Bowie. Zebulon, which shut down due to a Covid-19 spread back in December (canceling its El Vez Christmas show and more), is set to re-open on Jan. 4. The spacious venue enforces proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 and masks are required in indoor spaces at all times except when actively eating or drinking, as per L.A. County guidelines. They also have an outdoor area. As with all clubs and bars right now, it is wise to check their Facebook and website for any potential schedule changes or cancellations. 2478 Fletcher Drive, Frogtown. zebulon.la/
