The operators of Staples Center and LA Live are lobbying to get public support behind the idea of an NFL football stadium adjacent to those South Park properties, according to LAObserved.

An email blast went out to some Staples Center patrons asking them to support a downtown stadium instead of Ed Roski's proposed City of Industry NFL showcase. “We wanted to make you aware that the Los Angeles Business Journal is conducting a survey to gauge general interest in two potential locations being discussed to build a football stadium … “

So far a downtown stadium is winning 45 percent to 40 percent for Industry, according to the Los Angeles Business Journal's site.

Frankly, it's not a bad idea: A Los Angeles NFL team should be in … Los Angeles. Right? And placing one near the sports hub that is LA Live makes some sense.

The question for Angelenos is — given the history of public handouts given to the Staples Center and LA Live operations — can L.A. afford to help this billionaire corporation make its (and perhaps our) NFL dreams come true?
