One Arrested, One Killed in Pedestrian Accident near South Coast Highway 

LAGUNA BEACH, CA (August 23, 2022) On Friday, Stanley Isaacs died after being struck by a vehicle driven by Sysillia Morrison Montes De Oca on Pearl Street.

The incident happened around 9:38 p.m. at the intersection of South Coast Highway and Pearl Street.

According to the reports, the 60-year-old man and his wife were crossing the intersection in a marked crosswalk.

Afterward, for unknown reasons, an 18-year-old driver of a light-colored Volkswagen sedan struck them.

Paramedics arrived and rushed 60-year-old Isaacs to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, the woman reportedly sustained minor injuries, and was released from the hospital a short time later.

Additionally, officials said the driver fled the scene but later surrendered herself to the police. Authorities later identified the hit-and-run driver as Montes De Oca from Costa Mesa.

She was booked for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and felony hit-and-run.

At this time, an active investigation is underway and Laguna Beach Police will release updates once available.
