THE REDEMPTION OF MRS. SATAN
From the Department of If You Live Long Enough: Julie Daniels has been working on her play about the ideological and personal rift between Victoria Woodhull (the first female candidate for U.S. president) and Susan B. Anthony since 1995, when she ran it through a playwrights unit of the Los Angeles Theatre Center. It's been a finalist in a number of prestigious new play competitions and festivals, but hasn't been produced. Daniels recently showed her latest draft to actor Ed Asner, who got very excited by it.
Asner, along with Bruce Davidson, Barbara Bain and Daniels, will perform a reading of the play at Ruskin Group Theatre in Santa Monica on Sunday, 7 p.m. The play is under serious consideration for inclusion in the upcoming season at the Lonny Chapman Group Repertory Theatre in North Hollywood.

That's the title of Barbara T. Smith's (and cohorts) symphony based on a score made of black and white photographs of palm trees and power lines, taken from a moving car by Smith in the 1970s. Fri.-Sat., 8:30 p.m. at Highways in Santa Monica.

A reading of Alpha Blair's play on Sunday, 5 p.m., about an underage teen who fled from a difficult family life, who “discovers she may have stumbled into a web of deceit and fraud at her new 'home', a residence for women run by nuns.” Based on an overheard conversation — at the Black Box Theater, 12420 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles CA 90025.
